another first

we have had a bunch of successes this year, but our three big disappointments have been:

1. the complete loss of our tomatoes due to blight (somewhat beyond our control) 
2. misplacing our cabbages (behind a row of beautiful flowers) so that they grew but never produced anything edible, and ...
3. doing everything possible wrong when it came to handling our broccoli and cauliflower seedings, started proudly in the propagator (a class of 20) and then left to fight all kinds of pests in our cold frame of death, until there were just two cauliflower plants left ...

but after 4 months we have this to show for all of our hard negligence, our only brassica for the year:

our first real cauliflower!!! about six inches across, on tomorrow night's menu is a cauliflower curry, can't wait!
