allotment firsts/pretty pictures

we have had a number of firsts this year, certainly among the most exciting has been our corn crop, which resulted in these little cobs:


the cob on the right had an uneven, halloween-like surface, but still very yummy indeed!  (speaking of halloween, there's very little of it here, and that makes me a little sad, hahaha)

but here is also a real first:


a real leek, and we have 30 more of them in the ground!  we tried to plant them last year, but we had no idea what we were doing and i think our entire "crop" produced about as much edible leek as is in the single leek above ... this year though, we sunk them six inches in the ground when the were large seedlings, a basic case of just following instructions.
