if you were ever wondering, this is what a ton of horse manure looks like:

120 shovels full, it took 10 trips uphill to assemble this tiny little pile, right now manure is being delivered to our allotment, it's very convenient and cheap, i can't reveal all of the details as part of a non-disclosure agreement with the provider, but i think we overestimated the amount a tonne would be, and we will have to talk to our dealer about getting some more!

speaking of dealers, asda (of walmart fame) is selling "trugs" (aka floppy round plastic carrier thingies in american speak) for super cheap, so there is a very good chance that all of this manure will go to making new planters ...
