this year the thing that has bedeviled us the most seems to be the easiest thing to grow: a simple head of lettuce.
for some reason (most of which has to do with the strange long periods of mono-climate that we have been getting: continuous sun/continuous rain/continuous cold-grey no rain, in the order they appeared this year) we simply can't seem to grow a good head of lettuce to save our lives, our 20 some heads that we had growing nicely at the very beginning of the season bolted at the first sign of sustained sun after giving us just 2 weeks of lettuce, but now we have a more concerted effort in place designed to withstand some cold for the winter, we are growing lettuce under glass in the allotment and now we have our new tiny polytunnel in the back to the house:
it generated its first beads of moisture in today's glorious day of autumn sun, good luck seeds!
there are plans for a polytunnel in the allotment too, but i think that might have to wait for m's dad to get here, it could be our first project!
