passing of the guard

it was the end of an era in our kitchen this week as we ate the very last of the old, deformed, transplanted carrots and picked our very first planter grown carrot from our front yard, i present exhibit A:

the new carrot was gorgeous and actually is perhaps the nicest carrot we have ever grown, we have a 'late' crop in the front yard that should last us until late november or december if we're lucky, but we have been pretty lucky as no children or late night critters have messed with the planter yet, so fingers crossed!
