the origins of the shed

when i tell people that we built a shed from scratch, the response is often: HOW?

last august when judy and neil came to visit, maria suggested half jokingly to her dad that while he was here he should "build us a shed," and the result were these drawings by neil (kept for posterity in the official shed archives, located currently at the bottom of an ever shifting pile of tools that clutter our kitchen):




the math below was to figure out the length of the roof (for the record, the "complexity" of these calculations did not justify using a American Council for Learned Societies notepad):






if you look closely you can even see an emphatic declaration of progress!

i think we might frame this one and put it in the shed:




it took four months to build it, and although not everything went to plan, these were a great place to start.
