tiny tiny stalks

today was another lazily busy day, after planting corn at home in pots i came out to the allotment to plant some lettuce and rocket:

in the other half of the bed i think i will plant spinach, the soil looks really great after 6 months under straw and cardboard, this is really the way to do it and with the amount of straw we brought in last year (10 bales) i think getting ready for next autumn will be very easy ...

also, on of the success stories from last year was that 6 out of 10 of your asparagus plants made it through to this spring, all of this in spite of our total neglect, two are doing really well (like this one here), and then the rest are in various states of "i hope they make it," they are getting much more tlc this year than last year, and i think once we "solve" the weed problem in the new bed, they will be in a much more hospitable environment.

and here is one of the really small crowns, the stalks here are less than an inch long, poor guys!
